Last Day With Pizza And Greatest Hits

Yesterday we went to the beach for our last beach trip. Unfortunately there was not enough wind to fly a kite so instead I dug a big hole near the sea where the sand was softer. It wasn't very wide but it was pretty deep. It was so deep that I hit water. It was salt water of course not fresh. I couldn't dig any deeper because every time I dug some sand out of the bottom some more wet sand and water slid in. Eventually my hole was flooded by the sea so I abandoned the project.

We stayed in for the rest of the day and went out in the evening to a very nice pizza restaurant. We ordered a pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms. I ate almost half of it because I was so hungry. Also we got a free tiramisu from a very nice person who worked there.

Fishy Feet

Today we went to mail some post cards and had to wait a long time. After that I asked if we could go for ice cream and Mum said we could go for something better. We went to a fish spa. It was two tubs connected together with enough space in each for two people to put their feet in. First I had my feet sprayed with something to clean them. Once I put my feet in the water all the fish started coming towards my feet. They were small and had three sets of fins near their undersides. Also they had a grey colour and small black eyes. Since they only have suckers in their mouths it felt all ticklish like an iPhone vibrating against you. Each tank had 200 fish in them and they were all called Pedro. It went on for about fifteen minutes and then they made me pull my feet out. After that they dried my feet off and put some massage lotion on my feet. After it all my skin felt all smooth and soft. Then we went for smoothies and got some take-out burritos for dinner.

We are hungry

Burritos And A New Hat

Yesterday we stayed at home for part of the morning and later went out to a fish restaurant we had gone to before to have lunch but it didn't open until much later so we went to a little place around the corner called Old Burrito. We ordered some egg burritos and orange juice. After we were done our waiter asked us if we would help him with a marketing campaign where he was taking photos to put on the restaurant's Facebook page and saying what country they were from. Later we went shopping for a new hat because my panama was getting travel worn. We also went to the beach but I didn't have that much fun because there wasn't enough wind to fly my kite. Lucy swam for most of the time and had great fun.

In the evening we went out to the fish place and had sea bass and octopus that were cooked very nicely.

A Dwarf Magician's Pyramid

Yesterday we got up early and we went to the ancient Mayan site at Uxmal. It was empty.

We saw a pyramid that was supposed to belong to a dwarf magician. It was really big, slightly rounded, and had a big hole in the middle. Also there were some buildings that had swallows living in them. Swallows were flying everywhere. The building entrances were sealed off by mesh doors and the swallows had to fly in at very precise angles to get into the buildings through places where the fittings had come loose.

Also, no vendors, which was a relief.

We got in our car and started to drive back to Playa Del Carmen. On the way we saw a bunch of vultures circling. We stopped in a small town for lunch. I had a sort of pancake that was made out of chicken breaded and deep-fried. We drove for a long while and then stopped to get creamsicles at an Oxxo. Once we got back to Playa it was very late so we had dinner in.

Two Days of Pyramids

The before day yesterday we picked up a rental car early and drove to Cobá. When we got there I climbed a very large pyramid. It felt like it took years to climb but it was worth it. When I got to the top I felt like I was on top of the world. As far as the eye could see there were trees. We saw another part of the site and it looked tiny compared to where we were. The descent was bit scary because the distance down looked much taller when I was heading down than when I was going up.

After I had come down I had a snack.

As we were walking back we saw a bird had made a nest in a very low tree and a fat little chick was loudly crying out as if to say, 'Feed me.' Later as we were walking back towards the exit we saw two bikers suddenly halt to let an orange snake with black stripes that looked venomous pass. The snake paid them no attention and slithered off into the bushes.

Next we drove to the town of Valladolid to eat lunch in a restaurant that was in a courtyard of a mansion. Then we went to look in a ferreteria (ironmonger, not a place where you buy ferrets) for a juicer but we didn't find one. Next we drove to a hotel in Chichén-Itzá. We went to a convenience store called Oxxo to get some sandwiches. While we were eating rain started coming down in buckets. ['Buckets'

doesn't even begin to describe it. It was coming down in swimming pools. Ed.] Dad offered to run back to the hotel to get the car. He came back with it and we got home. Our room was gloomy with one bed one bathroom. Also to make things gloomier a tiny part of the ceiling started to leak.

Yesterday we got up and had breakfast very early and drove to Chichen-Itzá. When we got in the place was like a ghost town. The main pyramid was huge and made in layers like a cubed wedding cake. Also there was the biggest ball court with a small building at the end. I said maybe the Mayans used it as the press box for ball games. After around two hours vendors came out and started to try to sell us little souvenirs and other bits of junk. Then a lot of tour buses started to arrive.

We drove to Merida and had lunch in another courtyard restaurant. Next we found a juicer and we also got an electric tennis bat to kill bugs with. We also saw some cool D.I.Y. solar-powered robots in the electric tennis bat shop. Next we drove to our hotel which was much better than our last one. It had nice comfy beds, AC, and a patio. I shared a chicken sandwich with my sister in the restaurant for dinner and then we went to bed.

Birds, Lizards, and Strange Little Rodent-like Creatures

Today in the morning we went to an aviary. The aviary had mainly open areas and one walk-through cage. We saw some macaws, spoonbills, and lots of other varieties we could not name. Also there were lots of large lizards with scaly, tough-looking skin and small ones that were not bigger than carrot sticks. They were so still that it was sometimes very hard to see them. Along the way we kept seeing creatures about as big as a chihuahua with tan skin and rat-like heads.

The cage we went into had some very weird birds. Some were really big and had little colored spots behind their eyes. Also there was a little one about the size of a chicken with spindly legs, a thinner body, less feathers, and a smaller head. It kept making a sort of moaning noise and after ignoring it a bit it started making a sad-sounding noise like it was upset. Then it pecked my dad and flew off.

Name that rodent
After we left the aviary we went home and went out later for some very nice sea food and watched the finals of the World Cup. We had some very nice cooked octopus for starters which was cooked so it was soft and not at all rubbery. Then we had a plate of grilled sea food that consisted of fish, lobster, giant prawns, and octopus. It was very well grilled and had a lot of flavour. For dessert I had a very nice crème brûlée. It was very nice. The top was crunchy and the inside was soft and warm.

Two More Beach Days

Let's go fly a kite
Yesterday we went to go shoe shopping. It was the most boring thing ever and it was much too hot to be out. After what seemed like a million years we finally bought some shoes and went home. Later we went to the beach. We went a little bit further then usual and went to an area where there was some snorkelling. It was so muddy and there weren't many fish but I saw one so the extra walk was worth it. We also built a track in the sand to roll our tennis ball through. It was a pity I forgot my kite because it was very windy.

Today we went out again to see if we could find a juicing machine and after not finding one we went to go do some shopping for groceries. Next we had some ice cream while we were walking home. The ice cream was very thick. Also the flavours were really tasty. Later after staying in the house for the rest of the morning we went out again in the afternoon to go to the beach. I brought my kite and managed to get it to fly really high. Dad tried building a sea fort again but it barely got attacked. I kept telling him if no conflict takes place then you don't really win the battle but he thinks it's not true.

Sea Forts and Smoothies

Today we went to the beach. We were going to walk a bit further to an area with some snorkelling but we decided to do it another day. I slept for a while because I didn't get much sleep the night before. After I got up I sat around for a bit and then went to build a sea fort. A sea fort is when you build a wall out of sand and see how long it will hold out against the waves adding more sand to make the walls bigger and stronger. Mine flooded a few times but it didn't get washed away until after I left. After a small break we went to a nice little Argentinian restaurant and we had empenadas and a a sort of pie. For dessert we had little double-layered round-shaped cakes that were covered in white chocolate with caramel in between with lemonade to drink. After lunch we went back to our apartment and went out again in the evening to have smoothies. The smoothies were very large and we didn't have anything else for dinner. My smoothie had mango and banana in it.

Yesterday's Pictures.

Hello from a cenote.

These really remind me of Minecraft.
Smile for the camera.

More ruins.

Lunch time.

I'm not interested in having my picture taken.

I'm off.

Lizardmania and Two Cenotes

Yesterday we picked up our rented car and drove to see some ancient Mayan ruins at Tulum. We had to walk along a dusty road to the area where we bought our tickets and we saw a kitty that was stretched out and sleeping near the edge.

Everything was made of light grey stone and there were many large lizards. The lizards liked to eat small white fruit that fell off the nearby trees.

We stayed for a bit and then we drove into town to find some lunch. I had chicken with chocolate sauce and some lemonade at a small restaurant. The chocolate sauce didn't taste like chocolate though, it just tasted spicy and wasn't very nice.

Next we drove to a cenote but found we didn't have money to pay for the entrance fee. Then we went to another cenote but it wasn't quite what we were looking for which was just some snorkeling in a cenote with no guide. Eventually we went back to town to exchange some money and went back to the first place.

Once we got in the cenote it was breathtaking but it took a little while to get fully in because the water was very chilly. After moving around a bit everything started to warm up. The cenote was amazing from underwater. It was like a small beach had been put into a cave and submerged. The fish were were gray with yellow tails and ranged from small to medium.

We went to another cenote afterwards on the same site that had columns of rocks jutting out of the ceiling and ground. The fish were the same but the grey fish also came in a large size as well. Also there was a large brown fish about a foot long that was swimming around by the rocks with small fins and brown and white stripes.

After that we drove back to Playa and returned the car. In the evening we went out to a restaurant which made very good pizza. We also got free dessert which was a very delicious tiramisu and some cheese cake which was also very nice.

Two Beach Days

Yesterday we went out and had a breakfast of eggs, bacon, and pancakes. Next we did some shopping and went to the beach. We stayed for about an hour or so but then it got too hot and we didn't have a beach umbrella so we went to look for one. After finding one we went to find some lunch. We found a nice little restaurant and had  a two course lunch of empinada and pasta with lemonade to drink. After that we went home and went out for a walk in the evening while it was cooler. While we were walking we brought some post cards and looked at another beach that wasn't as good as the one we went to earlier. We had a dinner of sandwiches in our apartment and went to bed. The two annoying things about our apartment are my shower doesn't work properly and also a very quiet mosquito keeps stinging us.
Playa north beach.

Today we went to the beach again and I built a sand castle with walls and nine towers. I also went swimming. Later we went to have a snack at a place that did cupcakes and went to look for a juicer. We found one but it was much too expensive. We also rented a car for tomorrow so we could go see some Mayan ruins, another beach, and a cenote. Later we went to a place that did really nice smoothies and had burritos for lunch. The burritos had ham and cheese in them and they were very tasty.

A Day of Travelling

Yesterday I got up at 4:00 in the morning we got all our luggage and my uncle drove us to the airport. After having a breakfast of Tim Hortons at the airport we got on the plane. I slept for a lot of the trip. I also received a small bag of free toys because I am subscribed to a club for the airline that we were flying on that gives you priority boarding if you join. After landing and getting through all the fuss at the airport in Cancun we got a bus to Playa del Carmen where we had booked an apartment. Later we went out for burgers but the chefs didn't cook the burgers through so we had to ask them to make new burgers. When the second burgers came back the patties were cooked more then the first time but not fully.

Very Important P.S.A. (Public Service Announcement)

Attention people who I may or may not know and who have looked at this blog, I am going to Mexico for two weeks. I will not be going for a six week holiday as in recent years because my parents brought a new house.

I will start blogging again on Sunday 6 July.
